Simply supported
The term simply supported can be used to define a method where structural elements are supported on both ends but may be left free to rotate. These elements can be vertical or horizontal and are not restrained. It is sometimes referred to as simple support.
Simply supported contrasts to fully fixed (or pinned), which occurs when elements are supported at both ends but are fixed in a manner to resist or prevent rotation.
